Gidleigh Lane Alpacas

Alpaca Stud with a variety of alpacas for sale as good quality breeding stock, herd guards, or pets/lawn mowers

We wanted to conserve the native pasture and box gum woodlands on our place, which is 10 minutes out of Bungendore, NSW. We needed animals to graze the grasses to reduce fire hazard and chose alpacas. They graze by cutting the grass, not ripping it out of the ground, and they are soft footed so reduce impact on the ground. They are also better suited to unimproved pasture than cattle or sheep as they are able to derive more nutrition from the native grasses. One third of our 70 acres is set aside for conservation but the alpacas are able to graze there during autumn and winter. Alpacas are easy to manage and wander up to the house each day to say "hi" and maybe get some lucerne. They are herd animals and really look out for each other, show distinct personalities and are very rewarding animals to keep. We have become very interested in improving the quality of our herd and of the fleeces they produce, so we manage breeding according to conformation, fine fleece characteristics and temperament.
